The horse section attracts a large number of both local competitors and competitors from the broader community. As Dubbo Show falls within a number of shows being held in the local area, we have competitors coming from as far as Victoria to the Sydney area. The first day of competition sees our local horse riding enthusiasts taking to the main arena competing for ribbons. The second day of competition sees our more serious show horse competitors stepping out with their beautiful show horses. Competition is strong on this day and our Judges always have a tough job deciding on their winners. The third day of competition sees the Australian Stock Horses both led and ridden. The rings also cater for other breeds of horses and ponies both led and ridden and once again with so many beautiful horses to choose from, the Judges have a hard time deciding.
There is a small band of willing volunteers who bring the ring events together. There is a lot of work involved organising the ribbons, sourcing Judges who can attend and putting the program together with the aim of catering for all show horse competitors. There is months of planning and preparation beforehand and it takes dedicated people to do this. On the three days of competition, our volunteers come together to enable the rings to run smoothly, taking down results and handing out the ribbons. Without this band of people who give of their time, the ring events would not come together as successfully as they do.
There is always room for more people to be involved in the horse ring events. If you have an interest in looking at beautiful horses, meeting some wonderful ‘horsey’ people and are willing to give of your time for three days of a year, then please do not hesitate to put your hand up and come to the one of the best country shows in NSW.
